Getting Started
What is counseling/therapy?

Counseling (or therapy) is a collaborative process where you work with a trained professional to explore challenges, emotions, and life experiences in a supportive and confidential environment. The goal is to help you better understand yourself, develop healthy coping strategies, and create positive changes in your life.

Counseling can benefit anyone who is feeling overwhelmed, stuck, stressed, or simply wants support navigating life’s challenges. You don’t have to be in crisis to seek help. Many people attend counseling to improve relationships, manage stress, gain clarity, or work toward personal growth.

Counseling can help with a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression
  • Relationship challenges
  • Life transitions
  • Grief and loss
  • Trauma
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Work or school stress
  • Personal growth and goal setting

Your first session is mainly focused on getting to know you. We will discuss what brings you to counseling, your goals, and any relevant background information. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and decide whether the counseling relationship feels like a good fit for you.

The length of counseling varies depending on your goals and needs. Some clients attend for a few sessions to address a specific issue, while others continue longer to work on deeper patterns or ongoing personal growth.

Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which helps build momentum and consistency. Over time, sessions may become less frequent depending on your progress and needs.

What types of therapy do you offer?

I use evidence-based approaches tailored to each individual client. Therapy methods may include cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness-based practices, solution-focused strategies, and other approaches designed to help you achieve your goals. I also offer EMDR.

I work with individuals experiencing a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns, personal development, post-traumatic stress disorder, complex trauma and life transitions.

My approach is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and client-centered. I believe each person has the capacity for growth and healing, and therapy is a collaborative process designed to help you gain insight, develop coping skills, and create meaningful change.

How long does it take to see results?

Every individual is different. Some clients notice improvements within a few sessions, while others may take longer depending on the complexity of their concerns.

Finding the right therapist is important. If you feel counseling isn’t helping, we can discuss adjusting the approach or provide referrals to other professionals who may better fit your needs.

Yes. Counseling is voluntary, and you can choose to stop at any time. Many clients prefer to discuss their decision with me so they can review progress and plan next steps.

A strong counseling relationship is built on trust and comfort. If you feel heard, respected, and supported, that’s a good sign the therapist is a good fit for you.

How long are sessions?

Most counseling sessions last approximately 50 minutes.

I offer counseling for children and adolescents, often working closely with parents to support the child’s emotional and behavioral development.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency or feel that you may harm yourself or someone else, please contact emergency services or a crisis hotline immediately.
